Ingredients per serving
- 3.0 oz spinach
- 1.6 oz haloumi cheese
- 0.4 cup all-purpose flour
- 0.4 oz Olive Oil
- 0.2 oz Onions
- 0.2 tsp Kosher Salt
- 0.15 oz Water
- 0.1 oz Black Pepper
Method
1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. In a large skillet over medium heat, sauté the chopped onions in olive oil until translucent and fragrant, about 5 minutes.
3. Add the chopped spinach to the skillet and cook until wilted, about 3-4 minutes. Season with salt and black pepper. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
4. In a mixing bowl, combine the cooled spinach mixture with haloumi cheese pieces. Mix well to distribute evenly.
5. On a floured surface, roll out the all-purpose flour dough (made by combining 4 cups of flour and 1.5 cups of water) into a thin sheet about 1/8 inch thick.
6. Cut the dough into circles using a 4-inch round cutter or the rim of a glass.
7. Place a tablespoon of the spinach-haloumi filling in the center of each circle, then fold the dough over to form a triangle. Press the edges together firmly to seal.
8. Arrange the sambusak on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, ensuring they are not touching.
9. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the sambusak are golden brown and crispy.
10. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
