Ingredients per serving
- 1.6 oz Feta cheese
- 0.8 oz kashkaval cheese
- 0.3 cup all-purpose flour
- 0.2 tsp za'atar
- 0.15 oz Water
- 0.05 oz Vegetable Oil
Method
1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and water to form a dough. Knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
2. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest at room temperature for 30 minutes.
3. While the dough is resting, mix the feta cheese, kashkaval cheese, and za'atar in a separate bowl. Set aside.
4. Divide the rested dough into 20 equal parts and roll each part into a small ball.
5. On a lightly floured surface, roll out each dough ball into a thin circle about 4 inches in diameter.
6. Place a tablespoon of the cheese mixture in the center of each dough circle. Fold the dough over to form a triangle, pinching the edges to seal tightly.
7. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat (350°F). Fry the sambusak triangles in batches until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
8. Alternatively, preheat the oven to 400°F. Place the filled and sealed sambusak on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
9. Drain the fried sambusak on paper towels or let the baked sambusak cool slightly before serving.
