Common Questions

Frequently asked

How does booking a private chef work?

Browse our chef directory, find someone whose cuisine and style match your event, and send a booking request with your dates and details. The chef responds within 24-48 hours with a custom menu proposal. Once you approve, they handle everything from shopping to cleanup.

What types of events do your chefs cover?

Everything from intimate Shabbat dinners (6-8 guests) to multi-day Passover programs (20+ guests, 10+ days). Our chefs also handle dinner parties, holiday retreats, weddings, corporate events, and weekly family meal prep.

Is all the food kosher?

Every chef on IshThatChef specifies their own kashrus standards. Most of our chefs work with Glatt-kosher meats, Halav Yisrael dairy, and kosher-for-Passover ingredients. Important: most chefs on the platform are private chefs following kosher rules per each client's family specifications, and are NOT certified by a hashgacha or kashrus-supervising agency. Each chef's certification status is stated on their profile. Clients who require formal hashgacha supervision should filter accordingly or arrange their own mashgiach — chefs are happy to work alongside one.

How much does a private chef cost?

Pricing varies by chef, event size, and duration. A dinner party for 8 might start around $500-800 plus groceries. Multi-day programs like Passover are typically $1,500-3,000 per day. Each chef sets their own rates — visible on their profile.

Can I customize the menu?

Absolutely. After booking, you get access to a client portal where you can review the proposed menu, give dish-by-dish feedback, request swaps, and communicate directly with your chef. The menu is 100% customizable to your tastes and dietary needs.
